The Oregon Trail was 2,000 miles of prairie grasses, rivers and streams, desolation and dust, drenching rains and blazing sun, life and death. Along the way people are met and friends are made, as together the emigrants travel across the county. For some it was a new beginning for others an escape from the past. In 1867 the trail was not as rough as it had been, still not all who started on the Oregon Trail made it to the end. Bad weather, bad choices, sickness and disease ended the journey for some and they were buried along the trail like so many before them. For Danny it is a dream of a horse ranch and a home. This is a story of determination and perseverance, of life and death, of beginnings and endings. It is also a story about love.

Danny A Journey on the Oregon Trail edition by R S Heller Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed Danny and found it kept me interested and enjoyed all the characters....didn't want it to end. Going to read another book by Heller that I found.
One of the best books I've read. Love the story and the people. I would definitely give this book 5 stars.
An interesting and active story. It probably comes as close to any story as to the perils on the Oregon Trail. I have read that there is roughly one grave per mile from this time frame. The characters are believable and their perils they overcome are believable. So many stories talk about the Indian troubles, this one concentrates on epidemics, prairie fires, and just problems one would expect to find when you put a few hundred diversified people on the trail. There weren't many slow parts and all in all it is one of the better stories about this period I have read.
Overall it was a good story. However I've read many books about the Oregon Trail, so I have quite a bit of constructive criticism to add.
There were way too many errors in grammar tO count. When I read a book that is on the market, I expect there to be no errors. They are unacceptable, and show a lack of professionalism in the author.
My next problem is with the implementation of sex scenes in the story. I myself do not like reading graphic sex scenes in a book. However, in the first sex scene, it took my at least a paragraph to figure out that they even had sex. The author abruptly cut off before the reader even realized that they had sex. I think that the author could have said they were going to have sex without being graphic, and ended that portion the same as well.
My next issue was more of an annoyance. It is not realistic that everyone on the wagon train, as well as those Danny came across were all in love with her. In sticking with the time frame of the story, it would be more likely that very few people liked her because she dressed as a man, and acted like one. Her attitude was very much frowned upon during that time period, and she would have most likely been shunned by many. Also, the Irish immigrants were treated very poorly during that point in history.
I am well versed on historical events, so I'd like to point out a couple historical inaccuracies. There were no c-sections performed in the United States until after travelers stopped using the Oregon Trail. If there would have been, no doctor would ever perform one on the trail. Also, it was mentioned that a wagon turned to head back to Missouri after they arrived in Oregon. The train arrived too late in the year for a wagon to go back during the fall. Those who turned back would have met their death in the snow filled mountains before they ever reached Missouri. They would have waited until the following Spring before making their return.
Two stars for story. Formulaic and a lot was predictable. Some parts convoluted and beyond ridiculous. NO EDITING. There was no fact checking done. It irked me every time the author wrote that the characters went to the Missouri river when they were in St. Louis. It's the Mississippi river. And every time the mentioned the Irish language. There is no language called Irish. They speak English or Gaelic. Much more wrong including plain old spell check. They also need grammar check. I'd give lower score just for all that if I could.
This was a well researched book with thoughtful knowledge of the time and places. I feel like I learned much about the activities leading up to a wagon train trip across much of the country. It was a love story that took some surprising twists, and also kept me in the story until the very end. It would make a great movie. Great read!
I found this book to be very interesting and enjoyable. It was also fun because I have been to some of the places mentioned in the book and it was very accurate in detail. This was also a refreshing book as it wasn't filled with filth. I look forward to more books by this author.
This is just a boring book .I didn't even finish it.Maybe I will try to read it again later----much later.
